How to Charge Your Leopard 5/7/8 (Denza B5/B8) in the UAE

Quick answer: Before charging a Leopard 5, Leopard 7 / Ti7 or Leopard 8 in the UAE, identify the exact vehicle, market specification and charging inlet. A family name does not establish the connector, AC limit or DC limit. For cost planning, separate home electricity from public charging and use the energy actually billed.

Start with your model and market

  • Leopard 5 / Bao 5 / DENZA B5: use the handbook and specification supplied for your vehicle. The official DENZA UAE B5 page is a starting point for UAE distributor vehicles.
  • Leopard 7 / Ti7 / Tai 7: these names refer to the same model entity in our guides. Do not copy B5 or B8 charging figures onto it. See the Ti7 naming guide and confirm the vehicle specification.
  • Leopard 8 / Bao 8 / DENZA B8: use the official UAE B8 information and your handbook. This guide does not confirm which side of an individual B8 carries the charging inlet.

Check the connector before choosing a charger

Look at the actual inlet and its markings, then compare them with the vehicle documentation and the station connector. An advertisement using “Leopard” or “DENZA” is insufficient evidence of compatibility. Record the supported AC and DC standards and the vehicle’s input limits separately. For a parallel import, obtain written confirmation for that exact market version before buying charging equipment or an adapter.

The station’s advertised maximum output is not a promise of the power your car will receive. Connector compatibility, the vehicle limit, battery state and charging conditions all matter. Use the vehicle specification and actual session records to plan charging time.

Public charging cost in Dubai

DEWA’s charging service page lists registered-user public rates of AED 0.70/kWh plus VAT for AC and AED 1.20/kWh plus VAT for DC. A billed 20 kWh session therefore costs AED 14 or AED 24 before VAT, respectively. These are energy-cost examples, not a guaranteed full-charge price or driving range. Check the price displayed before starting and any separate site fees. Source: DEWA EV Charging.

Home charging and a useful cost estimate

DEWA states that home charging behind the household meter is charged through the normal electricity bill. For installation in Dubai, use a DEWA-approved electrical contractor. Ask the installer to assess the supply and the proposed charger; the correct installation cannot be chosen from the vehicle name alone. Source: DEWA consumer FAQ.

Estimate home energy cost as metered charging kWh × your applicable electricity rate, including the fuel surcharge and VAT. DEWA residential pricing uses consumption slabs, and the fuel surcharge can change. Use your bill and the current DEWA tariff. Battery nameplate capacity is not the same as energy billed for every session.

How to estimate charging time

For an initial planning estimate, divide the energy you need to add by the average power actually delivered. For example, 20 kWh divided by 7 kW is about 2.9 hours before allowing for losses or changes in charging power. This is arithmetic, not a measured result for a Leopard or DENZA model. Use a session log from your own car to refine the estimate.

A checklist for your first charging session

  1. Confirm the model year, market version, inlet and documented limits.
  2. Check the station connector, displayed tariff and access arrangements.
  3. Follow the car and charger instructions for starting and ending the session.
  4. Save the billed kWh, cost, starting charge level and final charge level.
  5. Use several comparable sessions to plan future stops; do not infer UAE summer range from one charge.
