Also known as: in the UAE the Leopard 5, 7 and 8 are sold as the Denza B5, Denza B8 and Fangchengbao Ti7 (Bao 5, Bao 8 and Tai 7 in China). This guide explains why one vehicle wears so many names — and the real differences between the China-market and GCC versions.
If you have shopped for this SUV in the UAE, you have probably seen it called four or five different things — Leopard 5, Fangchengbao Bao 5, Denza B5, even just “BYD Bao.” It is a fair question: are these the same car, and if so, why does the badge on the back say something different from the invoice?
The short version: one vehicle, two naming systems
It is essentially one vehicle platform with two branding systems — one for China, one for export. Fangchengbao was never planned as an export brand, so for the UAE, Europe and Australia BYD rebadged these trucks under Denza, its established premium label. Same chassis, same hybrid off-road DNA, different badge.
| Where | Name on the car | Brand |
|---|---|---|
| China (home) | Bao 5 / Bao 8 (方程豹) | Fangchengbao |
| China (the “7”) | Tai 7 / Ti7 (钛7) | Fangchengbao |
| UAE / export | Denza B5 / Denza B8 | Denza |
| Our shorthand | Leopard 5 / 7 / 8 | for owners |
That is why accessories and fragrance cartridges are interchangeable across the names: a part that fits a “Bao 5” fits a “Denza B5” fits what we call the “Leopard 5” — it is the same body.

The difference you can see: the text on the back
This is the one most owners notice first. A China-market car wears Fangchengbao branding — the characters 方程豹 and/or a “BAO 5 / BAO 8” wordmark on the tailgate. A GCC / export car wears DENZA lettering with the B5 / B8 model badge. So if two “identical” SUVs have different rear lettering, you are looking at a China-spec car next to a GCC-spec (Denza) car — not two different models.
The differences that actually matter (China-spec vs GCC-spec)
1. Charging port — the big one
China-spec cars use the Chinese GB/T DC fast-charging standard; export/GCC cars use the international CCS2 standard (with Type 2 AC). This is not cosmetic — a grey-imported China car has a GB/T port that does not natively match the CCS2 chargers across the UAE, so you would need an adapter. The official GCC car plugs straight in, supporting roughly 11 kW AC and up to ~100–150 kW DC, plus vehicle-to-load (V2L).
2. Software, maps & language
China-spec cars ship with a Chinese-language interface, China maps and China radio bands — grey imports often still have Chinese on the screens. GCC cars are set up for English (and Arabic) menus, regional maps and local radio.
3. Suspension & drive tune
Export versions are re-tuned for export roads — for the Australian launch the dampers were firmed up, the China tune being judged too soft. Power outputs are also rated differently by market, so a China brochure figure won’t always match the GCC sheet.
4. Warranty, homologation & Gulf-climate spec
The official GCC car comes with a local warranty and dealer support and is homologated for the region — generally meaning cooling and materials suited to Gulf heat. A grey-import China car typically has no local warranty and was specced for a cooler climate.
Which one do you have — and which should you buy?
- Buying new in the UAE? You are getting the Denza B5 / B8 (GCC-spec): CCS2 charging, English/Arabic system, local warranty, Gulf-ready.
- Considering a grey import? Check the rear badge and charging port first — a 方程豹 / GB/T car can be cheaper but may cost you on adapters, a Chinese-only screen, and no local warranty.
- Already own one? Whatever the badge says, the cabin and fitment are the same, so our accessories and fragrance cartridges fit your car.

FAQ
Is the Denza B5 the same as the Fangchengbao Bao 5?
Yes — the same vehicle. “Bao 5” is the China-market Fangchengbao name; “Denza B5” is the export/GCC name. The body, cabin and fitment are identical.
What is the “Leopard 5” then?
“Leopard” is the English reading of Fangchengbao’s lineup that many owners use. Leopard 5 = Bao 5 = Denza B5; Leopard 8 = Bao 8 = Denza B8; Leopard 7 = Fangchengbao Ti7 / Tai 7.
Why does the text on the back of two identical cars differ?
One is a China-spec car (Fangchengbao / 方程豹 / Bao badging) and the other is a GCC/export car (DENZA / B5 badging). Same SUV, different market branding.
Can I charge a China-spec (GB/T) car in the UAE?
Not directly on CCS2 chargers — you would need a GB/T-to-CCS2 adapter. The official GCC Denza uses CCS2 and plugs in natively.
Will accessories for the “Bao 5” fit my Denza B5?
Yes. It is the same body and cabin, so floor mats, fragrance cartridges and interior accessories are interchangeable across the names.
